Methyl dichlorosilane


Dichloromethylsilane has a chemical formula of CH₄Cl₂Si and a molecular weight of 115.03. Colorless liquid, smoke in moist air, pungent odor, easy to deliquesce. Soluble in benzene, ether and heptane. Very toxic and combustible. It is prepared by the reaction of methyl chloride, silicon powder and copper.

Function and purpose

Methyl chloride and silicon powder are directly synthesized in the presence of cuprous chloride catalyst in the next step to generate a mixture of methylchlorosilane, which is purified by distillation to obtain the product dimethyldichlorosilane, and then separated and purified by vacuum distillation.

Storage and Transportation

1. Used to prepare hydrogen-containing silicone oil, also used in fabric treatment, waterproofing agent, etc.

2. Used in the manufacture of silicone compounds.

Storage Precautions

Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse. High fire, heat source, storage temperature no more than 25℃, relative temperature no more than 75%, packaging must be sealed and kept away from moisture. It should be stored separately from oxidants and acids, and avoid mixed storage. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and suitable storage materials.
